Extinguisher and the different classes of it
A fire extinguisher is an extinguisher which we used to control the fires, it is mainly used in the emergency situations when the fire is not too much but can spread too much. So it is the first step to take to control the fire. It cannot control the flame which has spread in large area as it is not suitable for that. It is a cylinder which contains the extinguishing agents classified as different classes for different purpose to use. A pressure vessel is present on the cylinder which is used to discharge the extinguishing agents so that it can start its work to control the fire.
These fire extinguishers can be used in many places according to the need. It is used as a first-aid to control the fire. When the fire is initiated you can use it to control the fire to spread at very rapid rate. You can place it anywhere i.e. in schools, colleges, hostels, houses, kitchens, buses, Offices, etc. It can work everywhere by be aware to use the appropriate type of extinguisher. As every type of extinguisher has it‘s on purpose to perform. So before placing it check out the places first, and then find the cause of the fire which can be occur at that place, then after finding the cause place the fire extinguisher as per the reason of the fire if it is caused by any metal, or combustible solids, or anything. Every fire extinguisher classes has its own purpose. But before all this you should know how to wisely use these extinguishers.
Types of fire extinguisher classes:
Class A:
This Class A fire extinguisher contains the extinguishing agents which can stop the fire which can be caused by the solids which are ordinary combustible items such as wood, paper, clothes, plastics, etc. This Class A fire extinguishers usually contains some dry chemicals and some amount of water which absorbs the heat. It is represented by the symbol A which is inscribed in a triangle which is of color green.
Class B:
These types of fire extinguishers are used to control the fire which is caused by the gases. Class B fire extinguishers stops the fire chains by avoiding the release of inflammable vapors and by covering the fire by providing appropriate oxygen. They are represented by letter B which is inside the square which is of red color.
Class C:
Class C fire extinguishers are used to stop the fire which is caused by the electrical source. These fire extinguishers usually contain the agents which are good in not conducting electricity. You can use this type of fire extinguisher by immediately disconnecting the equipment from the electric source. They are represented by the circle containing the letter C and the color of the circle is blue.
Class D:
It is used to control the flame caused by the explosive metals e.g. magnesium, titanium or sodium. They contain the agent which doesn’t react with metals and stops the fire. Class K:
They are used to control the fire which occurs due to oils and fats. They are simply marked with the letter K.
